Recent Purchases

new purchases

Hello everyone!! I thought I would share some of my recent beauty purchases with you on this lovely (and COLD!) Sunday!  I went to Wal-Mart bright and early to buy some groceries and of course I had to pick up a few essentials!

First up is Maybelline's Color Sensational The Buffs in 920 Nude Lust.  This is a new line of lip colors.  The range from very nude to a deep plum.  This particular one that I bought is more toward the very nude, but with some pink.  This line has 10 shades, so I am sure it would meet this needs of ever skin tone.  This is my first nude lip product and I am still getting use to it.  I think it requires a more dramatic eye look or you will look washed out.  The formula is very smooth and nice.  However, I did find that the color did not last very long. I would like to purchase a few more shades to see if I like another more. Overall, I am happy!

Color Sensational® The Buffs

This is the color on me. I did have some clear gloss over top.

The next product that has been raved about on the YouTube beauty channels is Cover Girl’s truMagic in The Perfector.  This is a very unique product.  it is unlike anything I own or have even tried.  The website claims it is a perfecting balm for a soft, smooth finish.  It also controls shine, is non-greasy, and won’t clog pores.  It feels like a gel, but goes on as a powder.  I haven’t used this enough to give my opinion, so I will update later!

I bought these Equate Night-Time Soothing Makeup Remover Towelettes.  I have used the regular one and was very pleased.  I am sure I will love these also!

I needed some new razors, so I thought I would try something different. These are Schick Xtreme 3 with Hawaiian tropic Scent.  I am so confused on the need for a razor to have a scent.  However, it made me think of Summer! I will update on how well I like or dislike them.

Lastly, my most exciting purchase!! Obviously this did not come from Wal-Mart.  I ordered this through Amazon.  It was around $17 and is a sunless tanning lotion.  It is a very popular product!  I am SUPER excited to try this out.  I thought I should give it a try during winter just incase it was horrible!  I have watched many how-to videos, so I think I am ready!!

Well that is it for this week! I will update on a few of the products and let you know what I think!

Beauty Product Storage

I am back with one of my favorite new topics- ALL things beauty!  Today I am going to share how I attempt to keep all of the beauty products neat and tidy!

I recently cleaned everything out and threw away a bag of things.  Yay for simplifying!

As you can tell, I am still left with a great deal of products.  Honestly, I use all of them!  Obviously not all on the same day! LOL!  The first area is under my sink.  This area still needs a lot of help.  It is in neat rows, but I need to figure out something.  Any suggestions?

On the left are lotions, self tanning products, and sunscreen. Behind that is makeup bags and travel items.  The middle is feminine products and a few medicine items.  Then I have my hair products and brushes.  The back basket is full of travel size items, soap, extra deodorant, etc.  I also keep my toothbrush in here so it is free from the toilet flushing germs! LOL!

I have three drawers that store the rest of my items.  I did not photograph the first because it is pretty boring.  I just contains contacts, glasses, face cleansers, etc.

On to the makeup!  Like I said before, I use all drugstore products! The baskets seem to work the best for me because I can easily pull them out if I need to.  The two green baskets are from Dollar Tree. All of the blue baskets are from Target.  The white basket is super old, so I am not really sure.

This basket contains my foundations and powders.  I currently use the Cover Girl 3 in 1 foundation

(LOVE!) and Rimmel Stay Matte powder (AMAZING!).  I also use the Milani Brow Fix kit!

This basket contains all of my eye shadow.  I am currently going between my Naked 2 palate and the NYX trio that you see below.

This little basket contains all of my concealers.  I am using the Maybelline Age Rewind and love it!

These is lipsticks obviously.  Most of my lipsticks are in my purse.  I am not too excited about any of these.  The left basket contains my lip glosses.

Below are my eye pencils, liner, and mascara.  I am currently using Covergirl Lash Blast Fusion.  It is just okay.

These are my blushes, bronzers, and highlighters.  I am LOVING the Maybelline Master Highlighter (the one that looks mosaic).  It is amazing!

This little basket contains moisturizers, primers, and a setting spray.

The last drawer holds my hair tools and nail polish.  I LOVE nail polish…if you can’t tell!  They are sorted by colors and one basket holds remover, clippers, filers, etc.  Essie and Covergirl are my favorite brands at the moment.

I love having everything in it’s place.  It makes it so much easier to use and I tend to use a variety of products because I can see all of them easily.  I hope you enjoyed this little makeup tour!

New Bedding

I have been looking for new bedding for years! I liked the one we had, but it was a duvet cover and was BEYOND annoying.  The inside would slide around and get bunched up at the bottom.  It made me mad on a daily basis!

This is what is looked like before.  Again, I LOVED the fabric!

The walls are a very light blue, so I wanted something with a bold and colorful pattern.  Also it of course had to be soft and cozy.  I recently went into TJ Maxx (favorite store for home décor) and finally found it!

I LOVE the paisley pattern and all of the colors!  It still has the blue!

It came with the comforter, two shams, 2 small pillows, and neck pillow for $79.99.

I am so glad I do not have fuss with the covers when I make the bed every morning!  YAY!

1st Beauty Blog Post- Current Empties

PicMonkey Collage

You all know that I love all things home décor, organization, and crafts.  However, there is a whole different side that I have yet to share on this blog.  I am super excited to be posting about my long time love of beauty products!  I am obsessed with beauty YouTubers and watch them ALL the time.  I was so inspired and thought I would do a few blog beauty post of my own.  I don’t think I am cut out for vlogs! LOL!

If you are a beauty YouTube watcher, than you are familier with empties post.  This is basically a look at beauty items that I have completely used up and my opinion on them.  I have four to share with you today!

Suave Professional Dry Shampoo

I am obsessed with dry shampoo!  I have went through several bottles of the Suave dry shampoo and I really do enjoy it.  It leaves my hair feeling clean and has a nice smell.  I am currently using the Dove brand of dry shampoo, but I would definitely repurchase this product.  My only complaint is that it doesn’t last very long.

Tresemme Tres Two Spray

This is hands down the BEST hair spray that I have used for light coverage.  This was purchased for a trip to the mountains in the fall, so it is a travel size.  However, it did last for several months.  It holds great, but is not sticky!  I am actually going to repurchase this very soon!

Tarte Park Avenue Princess Bronzer

I typically do not buy higher end makeup (more on that later), but this was an impulse purchase.  It is a wonderful product, but it is expensive for me.  I feel like I could find something similar in the drugstore.

Sonia Kashuk Primer

I have started wearing primers in the past year and picked this up to try.  The product is fine, but I didn’t feel like it was the best primer.  I would not repurchase this!

I hope you enjoyed my first beauty post.  I plan on doing more in the future.  Please comment below and let me know if you would like to see more post similar to this!

Menu Planning monday

Today I am joining Organizing Junkie’s Menu Planning Monday!  This week we tried to clean out the pantry…and fridge…and freezer.  I love doing this because it usually means we spend way less at the grocery store!

Excuse the chicken scratch! My hubby wrote the menu this week!

Saturday: We had Chili (made a huge batch in the fall) and baked potatoes

Sunday: Chicken (enough for two meals), Mac- N-Cheese, and Collards (leftover and froze from New Year’s)

Monday: Dirty Rice (in the box) and black eye peas (leftover and froze from New Year’s)

Tuesday: Leftover Chicken from Sunday, potatoes (cut into wedges, s&p, EVOO), and Grilling Beans

Wednesday: BBQ Pizza (BBQ was cooked and froze during the summer)

Thursday: Leftover- probably leftover pizza or Dirty Rice

Friday: Eat Out

Happy Menu Planning!

20 Minute Challenge- bathroom Cabinet

I am still in the organize and simplify my life mode! I really hope this is the year that I get rid of the unnecessary clutter.

clutter is not just the stuff on your floor - it's anything that stands between you the life you want to be living - Peter Walsh

The other day I gave myself a 20 minute challenge to organize and clean out an area that I have neglected for far too long.  It is much easier to justify organizing an area that we see daily, but what about that closet you never go into?  Well I set my timer to 20 mins, and got to work!

This is a storage cabinet that is inside of Andrew and Abigail’s bathroom.  It holds toiletries, cleaning supplies for upstairs, beach towels, table cloths, linens, décor items, humidifiers, etc.  It was a MESS!

Evidence!  I had a little helper…so this could have been done in 15 mins. LOL!

I pulled out tons of old lotions, sprays, and beauty items.  They were so old that they didn’t even smell good anymore. WHY was I holding on to them? I also got ride of a pile of table cloths, place mats, and towels that were no longer my style.

I am making a point to use up the TONS of lotions, shampoos and soaps that I got at baby showers.  I tend to buy things when we obviously do not need them.

I didn’t do anything to fancy.  We hope to add a bathroom cabinets into their bathroom this year.  This will be move and used in a new space.  Right now it holds things we actually use! Genius!

I took this pile of stuff downstairs because it was just in the wrong place.

So, did I make it in time? YES! I went through every item and put everything back into place right at 20 mins!  I never wanted to bother with this space because I thought it would take forever. I was wrong!

So I encourage you to find a space, give yourself a certain amount of time, and do it!

House cleaning schedule

I know I am not alone when it comes to wanting to simplify my life for the new year.  I have made cleaning schedules for my family in the past and they have worked somewhat.  When we did use them, it was wonderful.  We no longer spent our weekends cleaning and doing laundry.  It was so nice!

In the new year, I hope to make a stick to a cleaning schedule!! I have completed one step in the process! I have made a cleaning schedule and I really hope to stick to it this year.  Click the picture below if you would like to have the printable.  I am going to print and put it in a cute frame.  Then check off as I complete the task.  Very motivational!!

Menu Planning Monday

Today I am joining Organizing Junkie’s Menu Planning Monday!  One thing that the hubby and I have done since we got married is menu planning.  We sit down before we go grocery shopping and plan the following week’s menu.  We make a grocery list and then an actual menu.

The past few years I have written out weekly menus on a picture frame with a dry erase marker.  It works so well!!

I made this printable a while back.  Click on the picture and you can download it for yourself!

Weekly Menu

Our menu is different than most.  We do not plan huge complicated meals during the week.  We both work full time and have two small children.  It isn’t going to happen!! We plan strategically and make simple (delicious!) meals.

Sunday: Margarita Chicken (marinate chicken in margarita mix), Brown Rice, and Black Beans

Sundays we make a more complicated meal and usually prepare at least one other meal to eat during the week.  This particular Sunday we also make Pork Chops that will be eaten on Monday.

Monday: Pork Chops (cooked with Sticking Fingers Carolina Sauce), Rice from Sunday, and Green Beans

Tuesday: Spaghetti (Sauce is already frozen)and Salad

Wednesday: Leftover Pork Chops, Mac and Cheese (from the box), and Corn (frozen- Broiled with salt and olive oil)

Thursday: Amy’s Organic Tortilla Soup and Grilled Cheese

Friday: EAT OUT!

So there it is! It works for us! This allows us the most time with our children on week days.

What are your tricks for saving time while in the kitchen?

There is a possibility of snow in the morning, so maybe I will get another day off.  Tonight I am super excited about Downton Abbey coming back on!!! It is hands down my favorite show on television.

New Year’s Feast and Table Decor

We had a traditional southern New Year’s feast (collard’s and black eye peas) on yesterday and it was so good! We invited Nick’s parents and grandmother over to enjoy the yummies!  We had a great little visit!
It is yucky outside today, so we are enjoying some indoor play.

I thought today I would show a little change I made on one of our tables.  This table is located in the living room and off the entrance.  It is one of the first things you see when you come in.

We had family pictures made in the beginning of November and I finally putting them in frames!

The blue lamp and white lantern are from TJ Maxx.  Both frames, mirror, and vase are from Hobby Lobby.
Tomorrow is my last day of Christmas break from work.  I am sooooo sad to leave my babies on Monday! I am taking Andrew on a little date tomorrow to see Frozen!
Have a fabulous Thursday!
